According to the former president Goodluck Jonathan, some governors and their appointees quarrel even before taking office.
Jonathan gave a speech on Tuesday in Abuja at the publication event for Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s book, “Deputising and Governance in Nigeria.”
In order to prevent problems both before and after selection, the event’s chairman recommended evaluating the pairing of governors and running partners.
The relationship between the Governor-elect and Deputy Governor-elect in certain States soured even before the inauguration when we were elected in 1999.
“In my opinion, the National Assembly ought to take a look at it,”
The previous boss said.
Jonathan pleaded with the National Assembly to investigate the widespread impeachment of deputy governors who disagree with the governors.
He urged that the party’s ticket be challenged in the presidential and gubernatorial primaries to address the problem.
“You should run with your deputy at the federal level as well in order to be eligible to participate in the primary as a candidate for governor,”
The former Bayelsa claimed that there would be less problems if those running on the same ticket competed in the primary.
He emphasized further that effective cooperation was essential to democratic functioning and sound government.
