The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘B,’ stopped 758 bales and sacks of used clothes and body cream that were being brought into the country illegally. The duty-paid value of these items was N690.8 million.
Albashir Hamisu, who is in charge of the NCS, showed reporters around the items on Friday in Kaduna State. He said that among the things that were seized were 473 cartons of foreign pharmaceutical products.
“The operations unit has had a lot of successes,” he said. We made a list of 132 seizures.
“Also taken are 533 boxes of foreign macaroni and pasta and 749 bags of foreign parboiled rice.”
He said that people who do illegal things were getting smarter about how they did them.
“We did this operation because the military gave us information.
“This is a big catch across the land border. Nigeria’s government has good plans for the country. “If we let these in, our textile industries would not be able to stay in business,” he said.
He also said that 24 used cars were taken away.
